As most of you know, on a few occasions each year I send out a special announcement that is not an actual posting but which may be of interest to many of you. Below is a request for those of you who now teach, or have taught, part-time online to fill out a survey that could provide valuable information for a research study being conducted by Keith Starcher, professor at the Devoe School of Business in the College of Adult and Professional Studies, Indiana Wesleyn University in Independence, Ohio. His message is below.
Please consider taking the time to fill out this online survey. I will make the results available in a future posting.
Understanding Part-time Online Instructors
The number of part-time online instructors is growing across the globe. Yet there is a large gap in the academic literature regarding the current characteristics of part-time online instructors. This research is trying to close that gap somewhat through the use of an online survey.
For example, what are the demographic characteristics of, reasons for teaching, and amount of teaching done by the part-time online instructors? Are there distinct profiles or types of part-time online instructors that can be identified? If so, what are they?
By completing this online survey (20 minutes), you can help answer these questions and provide your perspective (which is greatly needed). Your opinion counts! If you would like a summary of the results, please send your email address to firstname.lastname@example.org.
The survey is designed NOT to collect e-mail addresses or Internet protocol (IP) addresses. All responses will be compiled together and analyzed as a group. If you agree to participate in this study, please indicate your consent by completing this survey.
Thank you for sharing information about your valuable role as a part-time online instructor.
